A reported bug with the update has now been fixed by Microsoft.

Windows Essentials 20 users If you use Windows Live Mail as part of Windows Live Essentials 2009 or 2011, these older suites won’t be supported by Microsoft anymore.

If you’ve already got it installed, you can keep on using it just like you always have.

Just be aware that there will be no future updates, including security updates.

This minor release includes numerous updates across all of the programs in the Essential package, including Windows Live Messenger, Mail, Photo Gallery, Movie Maker, Family Safety, Writer, and Mesh.Microsoft has notified users of its numerous email services that they will no longer be able to use the Windows Live Mail email client without installing an update.Yet the somewhat clumsy official messaging, plus the release of an update that reportedly caused crashes, has created confusion for Microsoft users.Although most of the issues can be easily fixed by reinstalling the Mail app, some users are unable to use the app even after a reinstall.

If your experience is Windows 10 Mail app is not great and find the old Windows Live Mail was more useful, you will be glad to know that you can easily install and use Windows Live Mail in Windows 10 without any issues.

You’ll still be able to use it, of course, but the apps will no longer receive updates of any kind, including security updates.
